Usually, if you see random boxes lying around on the streets, you better not touch, or worse, open them to kaypoh what’s inside.
But if you’re walking around New Bahru on August 30 and 31, between 12pm to 8pm, and you spot a box in some nondescript corner, you might just want to check it out.
Who knows, you might just win free jewellery from a treasure hunt organised by local jewellery brand Curious Creatures, which is co-owned by 987 DJ Kimberly Wang.
On Thursday (Aug 15), the 33-year-old jock took to her Instagram Stories to share that she had an idea to celebrate the anniversary of Curious Creatures, which turns 13 this month.
In a screenshot she posted, Kim recalled telling her business partners, Larissa and Sherrin, who are the brand’s founders, that they could hide their jewellery for people to hunt on the streets.
Her idea was quickly pooh-poohed by her partners, who asked: “You pay ah?”
Kim went on to reply: “Huh?” to the group chat and then lamented in her IGS: “Still asking questions about me paying for the S$3500 worth of jewellery though”.
So yes, Kim is sponsoring S$3500 worth of jewellery for the treasure hunt.
The event is happening over two days with 11 prizes to be found each day. (Scroll to the end of the story to learn how to join the hunt.)
Participants can expect to find an array of jewellery from their Demi-fine range, including Kim’s Ohhowstrange x Curious Creatures collection. The most expensive piece would be a $759 floating diamond on a 14K solid rose gold chain.
When 8days.sg reached out to Kim, she shared that she’d always wanted to do a treasure hunt because she used to do geocaching.
“And the nostalgic game of hide and seek always hits the spot, especially if there’s a diamond to be won right?” she giggled.
Though the details of the hunt has pretty much been set in stone, a part of Kim is still hoping her partners will have a change of heart and chip in for the S$3500 worth of gifts they’re giving away.
“Let’s just say… we’re still debating this,” she said, adding that she was pretty surprised when they told her to pay for everything.
“I’m not sure how to feel? I thought that being a business partner meant I finally have some freedom to be recklessly creative but I guess it’s a good lesson in still needing to be financially responsible…,” joked Kim.
“Just kidding, of course I knew we had to budget for this. Just… need to discuss where the budget is actually coming from. So still to be debated (laughs).”
While Curious Creatures is already 13, Kim only joined the business last year.
“I’ve been with the brand from the start but as a customer first,” she said.
According to Kim, the brand, which sells handcrafted jewellery, first started on e-commerce website Etsy.
She had always been a fan of theirs because their jewellery doesn’t cause her sensitive skin to flare up and “didn’t break the bank”.
Kim turned into such a high spender she ended becoming friends with the founders. She also started to ask if they could make certain styles and pieces that she wanted.
“That brought about the birth of our first Ohhowstrange x Curious Creatures collaboration in 2019, which sold out within a day!” she recalled. Ohhowstrange is Kim’s Instagram handle.
They had one more collaboration in 2021 before launching another to celebrate Kim’s official joining of the brand as their creative and partnerships consultant in 2023.
“Tldr I was the customer that liked the brand so much I went from buying products to buying into the company,” she chuckled.
And now she’s giving out free jewellery.
Here’s how you can participate in the treasure hunt on August 30 and 31 at New Bahru:
